“That’s not an excuse for being late.”<\/p>\n
The boy grinned.<\/p>\n
“I know, ma’am. But I couldn’t leave the game.”<\/p>\n
The teacher raised an eyebrow.<\/p>\n
“Why not?”<\/p>\n
“I scored the winning goal.”<\/p>\n
A few students laughed.<\/p>\n
The teacher crossed her arms.<\/p>\n
“And that took you all morning?”<\/p>\n
“No, ma’am.”<\/p>\n
“Then why were you late?”<\/p>\n
The boy pointed at his desk.<\/p>\n
“Because I was waiting for the penalty shootout to finish.”<\/p>\n
The entire class burst out laughing.<\/p>\n
The teacher tried not to smile.<\/p>\n
“Sit down before you dream yourself into detention.”<\/p>\n
The boy nodded.<\/p>\n
“Yes, ma’am.”<\/p>\n

“Hopefully, tomorrow I dream we’re playing at your house.”<\/p>\n
The teacher stared at him.<\/p>\n
The class exploded with laughter again.<\/p>\n
“Out!”<\/p>\n
The boy laughed as he stepped back into the hallway.<\/p>\n
“See you tomorrow, ma’am!”<\/p>\n
